Halloween Memories

What are your fondest Halloween memories? Share them with me here.

I have two Halloween memories I will tell you about. The first one happened 23 years ago. In the 5th grade I was Mr. T. Yes, black, mohawk, jewerly wearing Mr. T. I wore this costume to a church party. I wore jogging pants-pushed up to my knees. I had on many necklaces. I even had one of those head masks that make you look bald. We cut a hole down the center and pulled my hair through for the mohawk. The problem started here. This was in the days before hair gel and mousse. My step-mother decided Vaseline would work to make my hair stick up. Vaseline did the trick. My face and scalp was painted black. I was one awesome Mr. T. Until the next morning. I washed my hair and the Vaseline did not come out. I washed my hair about 20 times that day and it never did come out. It kind of had to wear off. It was bad. I now know that Vaseline would have probably come out with some Dawn dish washing detergent. (Amie--I still hate that brand, don't you??) I will try to get the picture of me from my dad and post it sometime.

My second Halloween memory to tell happened 16 years ago. We were Seniors in high school. We were very cool, or so we thought. We plotted and planned for days before so all of our parents would be fooled. I was staying with Angie and supposidly we were going to a party that Regina was having. Angie and I dressed up in her dad's camo. We didn't want to be seen. We met up with Amie and Tammy. We were armed with toilet paper and shaving cream. Our first stop was the UTM dorm parking lot. We had a couple friends there that needed some attention. We did some car decorating when the UTM police pulled up. We did not get in trouble, they actually thought it was funny. Our next stop was an ex-boyfriend's house (Amie's ex). We did a little toilet paper all the way around the house. It looked extremely nice. The next step of our plans were to meet up with the guys from our class and go out to Steve's farm and have a shaving cream fight. Very innocent, non-destructive, totally legal fun. The guys met us at Hardees (which is now Burger King) in Andy's old farm truck. We all hopped in the back and took off. We started up the hill on the bypass and were surrounded by 3 police cars. It was like we were on COPS or something on TV. They made all of the guys get out of the cab. Then they asked who was 18, poor Todd and Jason were the only 2. We were pretty scared, but we hadn't done anything so they couldn't take us to jail. As the one policeman was grilling the over 18 boys, one was walking around the truck inspecting it and one was shinning his light in our faces. Amie was hiding in the corner of the truck because her mom cleaned the policeman's house. Tammy was almost in tears. Me and my big mouth could not be controlled. I told Tammy to shut up. About that time all 3 lights were in my face, talk about scary. I explained that I wasn't telling the police to shut up but I was telling Tammy. At last they let us go and said we could not come back into the city limits of Martin except to drop us off at Amie's car. After we got to the farm, the boys explained how they had been pulled over earlier and had gotten in big trouble for distributing pig afterbirth. Andy's folks have a pig farm. We did have some major shaving cream fights and washed up with cold water out of a hose. We decided it was time to go home and got dropped off at Amie's car, which happened to have the entire windshield covered in shaving cream. She drove to the car wash with her head out of the window to see. We did learn a lesson. Never go anywhere with the boys from our class without prior information.

I don't think any of our parents ever found out about that night.

The Juice Joint was Hopping

Well the murder mystery was a lot of fun. Although dressing up and planning it might have been as much fun as the actual night. I thought we looked pretty good. We did not figure out the murder, I don't think we tried very hard. It was fun. I think we might try to do one someday for us and friends, or maybe at church for New Year's Eve or sometime.

This weekend was fun. Friday night we stayed home, watched some TV, the Cards game and vegged out. There was some excitement in our neck of the woods. We were sitting around and ambulances, fire trucks, police cars came screeching by our house. We thought it must be a wreck or something bad. The fire trucks would go down the road with the lights and sirens on and then come back by with only the lights on. We finally couldn't stand it anymore so we went to investigate. It was an old farmhouse that was on fire. It was a huge fire. It was the house that Tommy's great-grandparents lived in. I hope no one was hurt and hopefully they had insurance.

Church was good yesterday. That C3 is good. He makes things so clear. I don't always get what some preachers are trying to get across, but with C3 I never have that problem. Penny, Brady and baby Britney came to church. I got to hold Britney most of the time. She is such a good baby. And she's pretty too. Brady was even my buddy. Most of the time he doesn't pay me any attention, yet he says he loves his aunt Carrie. Yesterday he sat with me and played for a while. It did my heart some good.

Last night was our area wide church service. I thought it was awesome. The singing was goose bump good. The message was good too. Although I loved the service, afterwards was possibly the best. A lady came up to me and asked if the girls were mine. I told her that they were and she proceeded to tell me how beautiful Bailey is and how pretty Macy is. (Of course I think so.) Then she told me that she couldn't believe I was old enough to have 2 children. I wanted to jump into her arms and tell her how much I love her, but I thought I might get some crazy looks. When I told her I was 33, she looked totally shocked. Man, that was an awesome compliment.

Great singing, good message, and an awesome compliment; does it get any better than that??

Blazing Crap

Every once in a while, Tommy tries to catch me up on important things in life.

To start, TiVo has changed our lives. We never have to remember to set the VCR, or rush to change tapes. No more missing the season finale of Alias because someone forgot to set the VCR. Although I love TiVo, Tommy uses it to enrich my life.

I have seen all of the Porkey's movies. He was so excited to have them all recorded to watch. It was really terrible. A few weeks ago he recorded Blazing Saddles. I have never seen it, so Tommy has been chomping at the bit for us to watch it. Tonight was the night. It was so bad. Parts were funny..not really but so dumb I did have to chuckle. Even though Tommy holds some movies in higher regard, than I; he has introduced me to some really great movies. I love Lonesome Dove. That is one of my all time favorites. I would have never watched it without Tommy making me. We watched it a long time ago. It was before kids, dogs, and marriage. So he is good at movie picking sometimes.

Tomorrow night we are going to a murder mystery dinner at the country club. It is set in the 1920's. I have a flapper dress to wear. Tommy has a zoot suit. He thinks he will look funny, I think he will be right in style. He does look a little like a black pimp. Pictures will be posted after the party. I even have a part in the mystery. I am Natalie, sister to the Northside mob boss, I am in love with the Southside mob boss. This should be so much fun. I am really looking forward to it.

Life Is Good

Today has been a pretty good day. Bailey and I went to "story time" at the library today. We heard 3 stories, got to color a sheet and got a snack. She was so cute. We had a good lunch with Tommy at Snappy Tomato. This afternoon we had parent/teacher conference at school. Macy is doing so good in school. Her teacher praised her pretty highly. I know we think she is smart, but it is nice to hear someone else tell us. Tonight Tommy had a duck hunting meeting. I gave Izzy a bath. She was not happy about that. She shook for quite a while. Then on top of giving her a bath, I brushed her. She was really mad then. She growls and tries to bite the brush. For any of you who do not know, Izzy is our 6 month old Yorkshire Terrier. Then the girls and I took our bath. Now Tommy is home, the kids are in bed and we are watching Survivor. Life is good.

Man O Man

I was going through some pictures saved on my computer and I found this one. Look at little Macy, when she was 2 years old with Jeremy Mayfield. She is lucky girl. She got to sit in his lap and when he put her down, he asked for a hug. She hugged him and then told him that she wanted to kiss him. He let her. Man O Man!! I also have this photo autographed by JM. He remembered me from bringing Macy to see him. He is a nice guy. This has been a hard NASCAR year for me. Losing your ride half way through the season STINKS. Things are looking up for next year. You can check out his new ride and sponsor at www.otc.com.

Pledge Really Polishes

Let me start by explaining the title of this blog. My two precious, adorable daughters were much too quite this afternoon. I should have known by the silence something bad was happening. They had a Pledge war in my bathroom. Do you know that when Pledge is sprayed on vinyl flooring you cannot walk on it? I have mopped the floor twice and Bailey is still falling everytime she goes in there. The joy of motherhood!!!

We had a nice quite weekend. It was nice for a change, instead of having to go to a million different places. Friday night we stayed home, grilled some steaks and hung out watching TV. Saturday, the girls and I had breakfast with my parents. We did a little shopping and came home. I spent 3 hours working on cleaning out my closet. I got rid of so much junk. How many purses can one girl have? Now that I've thrown a bunch of stuff away, I feel like I need to fill it back up. I guess I need to go to the mall. Ha. Just kidding Tommy. Saturday night we went to the movies with the Mays and out to eat. Flicka was a good movie. Tim Mcgraw should always wear a hat. He did do a good job acting. I enjoyed it, as well as the girls.

Sunday was church, both morning and night with a nap in between. Today I was back to work. It was in the 50's outside. My goofy landlord (I'll fill you in on it another day.) put our thermostat in a locked box. Now without a key you cannot change the temperature. It was 63 degrees all day. My feet were so cold. I called the landlord this morning telling him that it was cold and I needed some heat, but I never heard from him. I should have some kind of right as a tenent to have heat or air. I guess I will have to keep complaining or just wear extra socks.

Can you believe Christmas is only 2 months away? Wow, where has the time gone? I am going to turn around and it will be tax season, then life gets exciting. Lots of hamburger helper, running out of laundry and grumpiness. Sounds good. It also involves feeling needed (a sense of confidence), some money, and seeing a lot of different people. I am a people person. It is fun to hear peoples stories. One of the most unique people I do taxes for is a lady who is a barber and also a stripper. That always cracks me up. She doesn't do them at the same time, thank goodness, although she might make more money.

I will blog again soon, if I don't kill myself on the Pledge floor!!

Isn't God awesome?!?

It's cold...Bailey froze picking Macy up from school. Izzy shakes for quite a while after going out. We have been home from school for an hour and Macy still has her jacket on. Izzy is now dressed in her fall sweater. She is pretty cute.

Yesterday did get better after my run in with the law. We had a good dinner with Lauren, Cecil and Patti at the Lean-To. It is not ever a calm dinner with Macy and Bailey around. After dinner we went to church. Church was different because of the return of our soldier Joey. Joey has been gone to Iraq for the last year. He got home Monday. Joey is a great guy. I think a whole lot of his mom and dad. In their unit they only lost one guy. He was Joey's best friend. God has played a hand in Joey's last year. He has had everyone at our church praying for him, none as much as our daughter Bailey. She would cry and tell me how much she missed Joey. She jumped into his arms and kissed him so big last night. She is his biggest fan. Joey got a 2 week leave back in August. He was preparing to come home when his friend was killed. If Joey hadn't been coming home when he did, he would have most likely been with him. Isn't God awesome?!? When Joey left he hung up a yellow ribbon at the church building. It has been there for a whole year. On Monday it was raining and very windy. Late Monday afternoon, God blew Joey's ribbon away. It is like God knew he was home and could take the ribbon away. Isn't God awesome?1?

Macy received her first report card of the year today. She had a 100, 99, 101, and 100. She is so smart. We are very proud. Today was the 1st grade grandparents brunch. Granny, D and Pepaw went to eat with Macy. She was happy that they got to come.

We have a nice relaxing weekend with no major plans. We are going to try to see Flicka and go out to eat with the Mays to celebrate Patti's birthday. Happy Birthday Patti!!! My parents want to eat breakfast at McDonald's Saturday morning to see the girls. Then we have church on Sunday.

Sweet baby bliss

Today, has been a busy day. First Bailey and I took Macy to school. After much fighting, no cooperation and a few tears, we made it to school. Macy was most of the problem. After that I needed a drink. Just kidding!! I did come home and do a little house work. Then Bailey and I went to Penny's house to visit, but mostly to see our new neice/cousin Britney. Britney is a doll. She is such a good baby. She sleeps better than her 2 year old big brother. I got to feed her a bottle and after
a little fussing which included some spit up she fell to sleep. We had a good lunch and took some pictures of Britney for her birth announcements. She slept through the entire ordeal. It was such a nice enjoyable morning until I hit the Wingo city limits. That is where the day turned ugly. The Wingo cop--yes Wingo has a cop (a cop-as in one!!) pulled me over. Granted, I was speeding I didn't think I deserved a ticket. I haven't had a ticket in 3 years so there is nothing on my record. Anyways, I now have a ticket. It was such a proud moment. He should have been directing traffic at school instead of pulling over nice little soccer moms like me going 57 in a 35. It was really a 45 mph zone that turned into a 35 mph zone and I was slowing down. I called Tommy and he was so supportive. Ha!Ha! He told me that was his job (to write tickets) and I deserved it. I think the honeymoon is over.

Beginnings

I am going to try this blogging thing again.

I don't know what I will write about so be prepared for the unexpected.

Today is gloomy. A good day for a blanket and a nap. Not a good day for bookkeeping and running errands. I feel so much better when the sun shines. Why is that?? Maybe I'll go to the tanning bed and have some fake sun for a few minutes.

My good friend Angie got married Sauturday. It was a nice wedding. I was picked on pretty hard, I wonder why that is? Do I look like I can take it or what? Do I have "Please insult me" on my back? The wedding went off great and the happy couple should be on their way to Florida. I am jealous. My other good friend Regina did the flowers, she is sooooo talented. Who knew?? Regina is a crafty little devil. She can arrange flowers and make awesome cakes. Maybe in the next 20 or so years she can turn professional and do the girls weddings for me. Hint hint...

Tommy is out of town tonight. It is lonesome without him. Sometimes it is nice for him to be gone for a day or so, but I miss him today. Sunday at church we had a lesson on adultery. One of the questions C3 asked was "Can you tell what someone might say if they are fooling around?" Tommy whispered to me "I'm going out of town on Tuesday." That gives you an uneasy feeling. I don't worry about him. I guess I could drive myself crazy if I wanted to. I did tell him that I would heap hot coals onto his lap if he messes up.

I do get to play BUNCO tonight. My friend Bobbi and I go together. She is a lot of fun. We will jam to some XM radio on the way. If you don't know what Bunco is, it is a game you play with dice. We play with 12 people at 3 different tables. It is a lot of fun. Joelle and I have kicked butt the last 2 months, I didn't win a prize, but she won both months. I look forward to this every month. We have talked about starting a game at church. I wonder how the elders would feel about a dice game played at church for prizes?

Well, I guess I need to get some work done. I hope you enjoyed this blog. I will try to update. I always have such good intentions and then they fall apart.
